Finishing education can be daunting, you’ve been in an environment you’re familiar with for a while, where you’ve been learning and perfecting your craft.

But don’t worry, there is no need to fear anything, we’ve got you covered. We’re going to flip that daunting feeling and make it something you’re excited about. Follow this guide and it’ll make landing that dream job even sweeter knowing that all those late nights designing and printing was worth while.

Be brave

Don’t think you’re not good enough, because you are good enough! For sure, your skills may be slightly unpolished when you first leave education, but the ideas and craft are all there! It’s about finding an agency that believes in your skills to start perfecting them!

Don’t limit yourself

Send your work to your favourite agencies. What’s the worst that can happen? They say no, and you don’t hear anything back. But what if they say yes?… You’ll never know unless you send your work to them. Be brave. Be bold. You’ve got nothing to lose.

Send your favourite work

Not the work your lecturers or friends think looks good — send the work you think portrays you the best. Send the work that you believe in and what really shows off your skills. Most work from education kind of looks the same because they follow similar structures and briefs, so try to show self-initiative projects.

Show all your workings

Show a project with an end to end process, from the discovery phase all the way through to the final outcome. It’s super important to show how you tackle a project.

Uniqueness

Emails are too easy and can get lost amongst everything else. Think bigger than email. Can you create something and send it in the post? At least if it’s a physical object it will sit on that person’s desk and they’re forced to look and open it. Become the talk of the studio.
