The Fireside chat events are an informal discussion around the opportunities and challenges we face together in 2021. For more information about these events, and to register your interest in future events, find out more.
In our inaugural event our co-founder, Shelly Frame, our Etch Horizon lead, Giles Morgan, and our Lead Solutions Architect, Phil Dye all discussed key challenges that organisations will face in 2021 and beyond. As a recap, or for those who missed out, we're showcasing each talk, allowing you to hear from the experts and learn about each subject matter in more detail.
In this post, we're recapping Giles Morgan's talk on the importance of ecosystems and the changing landscape of agency vs consultancy.
According to Credit Suisse, the average lifespan of an S&P 500 company is declining. In the 1950s the average life span was almost 60 years, whereas now it is under 20; and by 2027 the average lifespan is forecasted to shrink to just 12 years.
The cause? Disruption and a failure to transform. Along with static long term business plans that simply didn't work at a macro level, the value of innovation and disruption wasn't clearly understood. Businesses must reimagine themselves in order to thrive.
An internal ecosystem lens allows us to better understand our capabilities to adapt and innovate, in order to plan and improve. To create the best conditions for success, businesses must look at ecosystems through their people, partners and supply chain if they want to succeed and grow.
Naturally, to assist with transformation efforts, organisations turned to their consultancy or agency partners. However with commoditisation of software on the agency side and lack of investment in digital understanding on the other, its left customers lacking value on both sides. A hybrid model will prove to be the most valuable when directing and delivering digital transformation journeys for organisations.
