Despite everything currently going on in the wider world, the Etch Play team will be here to continue giving you a weekly roundup of the latest in video games, and the things we have been doing to occupy our time.
Hello again everyone! Wow, what a week... Firstly, I hope you are all well and looking after yourselves and others. It is a difficult time and important we are all looking out for each other.
Now, in the name of some more positive news, we are here with our weekly round up of video game fun to try and brighten your day and forget about the craziness going on right now for a five or so minutes!
In the past week, I have been playing through Ori and the Will of the Wisps which is a lovely successor to the original. Other than a few technical glitches it's been a wonderful distraction from the real world over this past week. I'm at the final boss fight now just in time to pick up a copy of DOOM Eternal which I am very excited for!
This week I was excited to see that Colossal Order's Cities: Skylines has another expansion on the way. The latest bit of extra content for one of my favourite city building games is Sunset Harbour, contrary to the name there's not actually that much in this pack related to ships, with the main ship-related feature being a new type of industry: fishing.
The meat of this pack is actually around even more mass transit options including inter-city busses, helicopters, overland metro (a feature long requested that was implemented by the excellent Metro Overhaul Mod) and loads of new transport hubs.
In a fantastic example of working with the community it seems Colossal Order have worked with the creator of Metro Overhaul Mod to see their vision added to the base game and allowing them early access to ensure that the beloved mod continues to work after release and still adds more in-depth metro features for people that love the mod.
It's out in about a week and I'll probably dive right back in and start a new city with some new toys to play with!
I've just come back from 2 days off work that I booked specifically to play some games as it’s not a good time to go social or travel anywhere... you know why and I’m not going mention once again! Thanks to the high speed internet, I’ve played a lot of FIFA, PUBG mobile, Rocket League and Counter Strike with my friends and had so much fun and laughs.
Did I mention today is the Iranian New Year? We celebrate the beginning of spring and the new year starts at the same time.
I've not been playing much this week, but I have been watching an Age Of Empires 2 tournament that started yesterday, Hidden Cup 3. It's a bit dissimilar to other tournaments, as every person competing is actually playing under a pseudonym, so nobody knows who is who, the casters, the fans, even the players don't know who they'll be up against!
Its a great twist on normal tournament brackets, and has allowed for some wacky games. If you wanna read into it more than I could do it justice here, head on over to the AOE2 esports page!
It's hard to pretend this is all business as usual, so I'm not going to.
The continued spread of COVID-19 has made life more difficult for just about everybody, and now more than ever we need community spirit, sensible measures and calm heads to prevail.
In the mean time, we'll do our best to keep providing great content for our audience. Thanks for sticking with us!
A few weeks ago I bought Unravel Two during a Nintendo Switch sale and finally got round to starting it this week (I had to finish Spider-Man on PS4 first).
Having played the first Unravel with Mrs G and thoroughly enjoying it, we've both been looking forward to this one for a while, specifically as this instalment is a co-op adventure.
Unravel Two is such a great change of pace to the games that I normally play and the level design is gorgeous. Mrs G and I did blitz through the first game very quickly, so this time around we're conscious of that and are limiting ourselves to one chapter per day!
Light one from me this week! I've been playing a bit of Rocket League (standard) and The Division 2, which seems appropriate at the moment as the game is about a dealing with the aftermath of a viral pandemic.
Earlier this week our good friends Hello Games dropped the latest trailer for The Last Campfire, which looks absolutely stunning, the graphics, the music - superb! Thankfully not too much longer to wait as the game is slated to be released later this year in the summer. They also announced the platforms that the game would be available on, and I'm super excited that this will be coming the Nintendo Switch!
That's us for another week. I'm sure it has been a crazy one for everyone with what is currently going on, and we just want to say thank you to everyone who is still out there on the front lines making sure we all keep ticking along. We'll continue to be around as normal and bringing you our usual content throughout this period. If you're looking for game recommendations, someone to play with, or heck if you just want a chat, please do give us a shout on twitter!
