Time for your weekly dose of videogame news and views from Etch Play.
Welcome to the latest edition of the Etch Play roundup. We are of course covering the huge Xbox news from this week, all the latest game remakes, and we've got a special guest appearance from Etch Growth team member, Emma!
This week Frontier announced that they're bringing remasters of Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 to the PC and Nintendo Switch later this month. After Planet Coaster and Planet Zoo, I'm excited to see how it turns out. It's only 13 days away!
I'm late to the party on this, but this week I finally watched the Noclip documentary on the making of Outer Wilds, one of my favourite 2019 games. It's well worth a watch. I've also been continuing my voyage on Spiritfarer, and loving it. Anyone else finding themselves wanting an Xbox Series console now? Just me?

Longtime reader, first time contributor here. Last weekend I took the plunge and bought my golden ticket into the Etch Play roundups, a Nintendo Switch. Seeing what seemed like everyone playing Animal Crossing during lockdown finally wore me down and I made the purchase. I joked on Adam’s live stream of Spiritfarer last week, that these games are ‘life admin, but make it fun’ and it’s not far wrong. Life admin, but make it fun and addictive. I can totally see the appeal and I’m already obsessed with collecting Nook Miles, Bells and creatures, and making my island (Azkaban) the best island ever.
But what I’m really looking forward to, and what you can expect to hear about in upcoming roundups, is Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! I was obsessed with Pokemon Red, Blue and Yellow on my Gameboy Colour as a kid, so I can’t wait to relive those memories. Stay tuned.
It's finally happened... We have Xbox pricing, and a release date. Plus, the worst kept secret has finally been confirmed: The Xbox Series S.
And, it's really reasonable. With the Series X coming in at £449, and the Series S at £249, that's cheaper than I think most of us could have hoped. What's more, financing plans are being offered of £28.99 p/month for the Series X with game pass ultimate for 2 years, and £20.99 p/month for the Series S, also with game pass. Which makes this an incredible offer. If you're a day one buyer, you will have the console in your hands on 10th November!
The specs for the Series S have also been revealed. I won't go into details, but you can check them all out here.
It had been a staring contest between Microsoft and Sony to see who would blink first. Microsoft have laid it all on the table for us. Now... Your move Sony.
If you did want more details, you can check out this video here of us discussing all the Xbox news on our weekly Twitch show.
A couple of months ago when I heard the PlayStation 5 was on the way, I started to consider that it might be time to replace my Xbox. But, now having seen the design of the Xbox consoles I was thinking, do I want a new Xbox or the PlayStation 5? And I'm also still thinking do I need a new console at all? I think when we get the price of the PS5, I'll be in a better place to make that decision 😅
On top of the Xbox news we've already discussed, it was also announced this week that EA Play will now be packaged in with Game Pass. It does mean that Game Pass price on PC is slightly increasing at some point, but it is still incredibly reasonable, and makes the already attractive Xbox deals even better.
This week I have been on holiday, travelling around Scotland in my campervan, hiking and generally having zero phone signal with no access to games industry news. I have however, reached the bottom of the mine in Stardew Valley for Nintendo Switch, which is perfect evening entertainment 👌
It's been confirmed this week that Ubisoft are remaking Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time for the PS4, PC and Xbox One. So if you're a fans of the series, then keep an eye out for this.
