Junior Backend Developer

Job Description

We're on the hunt for an additional web developer to join our team. We don't obsess about skill sets and keywords, or what language you happen to have learned so far. Who you are is more important.

If you want an idea of what the role entails, you’ll mostly be working on websites based on the Umbraco CMS, which means working in .NET (mostly MVC). For the right candidate we’re willing to provide on the job training to introduce you to Umbraco and other relevant areas of knowledge.

How you think is the only requirement. This is a backend role, but any crossover knowledge of frontend (in particular AngularJS) would be helpful to your application.

We work in a fluid & lean way, so you'll need to be comfortable working iteratively with the rest of the team to deliver an excellent result without specifications or intensive project management. You'll be expected to take ownership of your work, manage your time, communicate in a dynamic team, and ultimately deliver quality code.

In return, you’ll have all the support you need. You’ll be working in our new Pulse team, under a lead developer who can manage and help you, and closely with a backend-focused colleague who can guide you on technical aspects. Working alongside best-in-class UX designers and frontend developers, you’ll get to deliver interesting projects, help continuously improve our existing sites, and support our partners.

YOU HAVE

  • A real passion for backend development
  • A willingness to learn
  • A dream to work with a great team

KNOWLEDGE OF ANY OF THE FOLLOWING WILL BE USEFUL

  • ASP.Net (Webforms and MVC)
  • Umbraco CMS
  • Working in an agile/lean team (eg Scrum)
  • Experience of an Agency/working on multiple concurrent projects
  • Source code management (SCM) such as Mercurial (hg), git or TFS
  • HTML/CSS/JavaScript (crossover knowledge only, this is a backend role)
  • AngularJS
  • REST services (ie WebAPI)
  • n-Tier architecture

The role is based in our office in central Southampton and wouldn't suit remote working continually, although we're human and flexible if you have specific needs.
